The District Attorney's office of Kings County, New York has been addressing re-entry issues since 1997. Initially known as ComALERT, the Brooklyn District Attorney's re-entry work has grown and evolved into an outstanding resource for individuals in need.

The Rephidim Ministry was founded in 2016 as a partnership between the First Baptist Church of Crown Heights and the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office, then led by the late DA Kenneth P. Thompson and Re-entry Bureau Chief Chris Owens. At that time, ComALERT and the fast-growing Kings County Re-entry Task Force were the two re-entry programs.

During his tenure as District Attorney, Hon. Eric Gonzalez has championed the expansion of the Bureau's work. The Bureau added a Community Resources unit to its work and moved to a new office on the 7th Floor of 345 Adams Street. The current Re-entry Chief is Maria Abadia.
